Getting started with ForeFinder is easy:
My compass isn’t working properly.
Due to magnetic interference, the phone compass can be wrong in certain environments. If you find that it's not working well, use the “Calibrate Compass” button which allows the phone’s gyroscope to help. You can also use the "Swipe Mode” in the settings menu. This allows you to manually rotate the map towards your shot line.
How does Compass calibration work?
Drag the blue crosshairs to a landmark that you can see (specific bunker, tree, etc), point your phone in the direction of that landmark, and then press the “Calibrate” button. This will provide a reference direction for the gyroscope and compass, which can be more accurate than the compass by itself in certain environments. You may have to re-calibrate if you notice that the calibration starts to drift or become less accurate.
How does the Swipe Mode work?
With Swipe Mode enabled, the compass is no longer used to rotate the map, and you can manually rotate the map by swiping left/right on the screen. This is typically sufficient as you can use course features (bunker, trees, cart path, etc) to manually line up the red shot line. While in swipe mode, you can also press the "recenter" button (ᐃ) to set the map in line with the compass as a one-time operation.
Why don’t you include wind in the adjusted distance calculations?
The accuracy of wind data from weather services is not reliable or updated enough, and overall provides a worse estimate if factored in. Instead, you can use the manual distance override buttons to adjust the distance you expect your shot to go, based on other factors like wind, half-shots, etc.
